Boeing 2707: The American Concorde: Aircraft Feature

You've probably heard about the Concorde but did you know that it had a forgotten American competitor? This is the Boeing 2707 and it was America's response to the European Concorde and the Soviet Tupolev Tu-144, the world's first supersonic transport aircraft. The 2707 could carry between 250 to 300 passengers, almost 2 and a half times that of the Concorde, while cruising at Mach 3 which was around 40% faster than the Concorde. When the 2707 came out, many, including the US government, believed that this was the future, and just a few months into its production Boeing had already reserved 122 planes with 26 airlines. However, despite the initial interest, the 2707 faced the same issues as the Concorde which ultimately led to the project being cancelled and the 2707 being forever forgotten. It's still pretty incredible isn't it?
